Phillip D. Surface, D.O.
A native of Princeton, WV, Dr. Surface completed his pre-medical studies at Concord University in Athens. After graduation from the University of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992, he next completed internship at WVU/ Charleston Area Medical Center. Dr. Surface then completed Orthopedic Surgery residency at Oklahoma State University in 1997. Dr. Surface also completed a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery subspecialty residency at the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Spokane, Washington.
While in residency Dr. Surface received special recognition for development of Oklahoma State's Orthopedic Surgery Residency Sports Medicine program, served as Chief Resident, and authored scientific papers. During this time, Dr. Surface arranged for, and provided specialized Orthopedic Surgical treatment to pediatric victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster,and served as team physician-consultant for several professional, collegiate, and high school teams and organizations. Dr. Surface is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with professional interests in adult reconstructive (total joint replacement) surgery, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, hand surgery, trauma, and pediatric orthopedic conditions. While maintaining a busy practice of patient care and surgery, Dr. Surface serves as Associate Clinical Professor at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and Clinical Instructor at Alderson-Broadous and Mountain State University Physician Assistant programs. Dr. Surface and his wife Leah live in Winfield. They have four children, are active in church activities, enjoy many outdoor sports, and are happy to be living and working in service to the people of their native state of West Virginia. |
